Snow Boarding
Mammoth Mountain is unquestionably one of the finest Snowboard Mountains in the world. An average of over 353 inches of snow falls onto the 11,053 foot summit, making the entire 3,500 acres of rideable terrain enjoyable for all. The average snowfall allows for riding and exploring in between marked runs, or in the backcountry. Choose from half pipes, snowboard parks, natural hits, gullies, heart-pumping steep chutes, wide-open bowls, tree riding, or wide-open cruisers. Mammoth Mountain is investing another $11 million in capital improvements this year on Mammoth Mountain. Chairs 15 and 24, currently fixed-grip chairs located at the Juniper Springs base area on the far east side of Mammoth Mountain, will be replaced with a Doppelmayr high-speed detachable six-seat chairlift, Eagle Express.
Mammoth's first "six-pack" lift, Eagle Express will trim six minutes off the ride time of the older chair. Guests will unload at the existing location and the bottom terminal will be moved uphill approximately 70 feet. The new Eagle Express six-pack at the Juniper Springs base area will make access to the mountain more convenient. Little Eagle, a new temporary base facility located between Juniper Springs Lodge and Eagle Express will house ticket sales, food and beverage, sports school, first aid, lockers and restrooms. This multi-use facility will be used year-round, with a Bike Park, restaurant and meeting facilities open during summer months. A full-service bar and restaurant in Little Eagle will accommodate approximately 150 persons.
The Ski Area is also expanding the already extensive snowmaking network to include the Juniper Springs area. Initially, snowmaking will be added to trails that link Juniper Springs to Canyon Lodge and Main Lodge. The addition of snowmaking to Juniper Springs will ensure early season access to the mountain from this portal conveniently located in town.Construction will continue through the winter on the new restaurant and bar located at the top of Mammoth Mountain. The intimate dining room of Parallax is encased behind the glass walls of Mammoth's Gondola station at the 11,053-foot summit, allowing diners to enjoy fine cuisine and breathtaking views of the Eastern Sierra.Parallax is scheduled to open April 2001 and will be open year round.
